Making Informed Choices

A payer organization expanding into international markets was evaluating the purchase of a core healthcare system. Based on a brief requirements study and a convincing demo, they were preparing to purchase a vendor’s packaged system, when they asked Oleen Pinnacle to help them validate their system selection. Due to time-to-market constraints, Oleen Pinnacle recommended an abbreviated system selection process to confirm their decision and evaluate other options.

Oleen Pinnacle provided templates and guidance in the development of a formal request for proposal (RFP). Oleen Pinnacle performed extensive research on available state-of-the-art applications and recommended a short list of vendors to whom the RFP was sent. The RFP covered detailed business requirements and all vendors were required to include enhancement and modification costs with their proposals. Over a two week period Oleen Pinnacle facilitated five on-site demonstrations, and then worked with the client to clearly determine the real cost and ROI of the system acquisition.

The payer organization decided not to purchase the first system they evaluated, as it was the most expensive to implement and failed to meet a number of their requirements. Ultimately, the client decided to delay the roll-out of the new product until such time as anticipated business volume would justify the expense of the system acquisition and implementation.
